Manon Otis, née en 1958 sur la Côte-Nord, Québec, étonne et ne cessera jamais d’étonner. Elle a obtenu un D.E.C. en arts plastiques, au Cégep de Shebrooke (Canada) en 1980, un baccalauréat aux Beaux-Arts, UQAM (Université de Québec à Montréal) en 1984 et une maîtrise en arts plastiques (éducation), à l’UQAM en 1995. Ses tableaux colorés et audacieux furent pour la première fois exposés en solo au Manoir de Baie-Comeau; elle n’avait pas encore vingt ans. Son œuvre, qui porte souvent la thématique de la vie quotidienne, a depuis été représentée dans plus de 25 expositions solos ou collectives. S’inscrivant dans le courant de la peinture populaire, Manon Otis s’amuse à faire un clin d’œil à notre société qui court après le temps, et pour ce faire, mêle la caricature, la bande dessinée et la peinture dans une ambiance de douce ironie. Elle participa avec éclat au Symposium de peinture de Baie-St-Paul (Québec) en1985, et se retrouve aussi dans plusieurs collections particulières ou publiques au Canada, aux États-Unis, en Europe et au Japon. Présentement, c’est en France, même en Suisse, qu’elle expose ses tableaux avec grand succès. Manon Otis, born in 1958 on the Côte-Nord, Quebec, surprises/amazes/astonishes her public and will always continue to do so. She obtained a certificate in Fine Art from the Cégep de Sherbrooke in 1980, a Bachelor in Fine Art from UQAM in 1984 and a Masters in education (Fine Art) from UQAM in 1995. Her colorful and daring paintings were exposed for the first time in a solo exhibition at the Manoir of Baie-Comeau, before the age of twenty. Her work, with themes of everyday life, has since been shown in more than 25 solo or collective exhibitions. To be classified in the movement of popular art, Manon Otis amuses herself to represent our society, always running after time as she often depicts it, and mixes in the process the media of caricature, cartoons and traditional painting, all soaked in an atmosphere of soft irony. She participated brilliantly at the Symposium of painting of Baie-St-Paul (Quebec) in 1985, and can be found now in many private and public collections in Canada, the United States, Europe and Japan. She is now exhibiting her paintings in France and Switzerland with great success.
