Lucien Chelly est né en 1956, à Montréal. Il fait ses études en beaux arts à l’Université Concordia de Montréal. Bill Vazan et Guido Molinare sont au nombre de ses professeurs. À 12 ans, Chelly rencontre Salvatore Dali. Bien que fort jeune, il subit son influence au début de sa carrière de peintre. Durant ses années universitaires, il touche à l’art abstrait ainsi qu’aux formes purement géométriques pour retourner définitivement à la figuration. Il participe à une vingtaine d’expositions solo et de groupe, à Paris, Montréal et New York. Ses plus récentes ont eu lieu au Centre d’exposition Brancusi de Montréal (1984); au Centre Saidye Bronfman de Montréal (1986); à la Galerie de l’Aéroport de Paris (1987); à la Galerie Arte Labirento de Saint-Paul de Vence, en France, ainsi qu’à la Galerie Saint-Paul de Montréal (1991). Lucien Chelly was born in 1956, in Montreal. He studied fine arts at Concordia University (Montreal). Bill Vazan and Guido Molinare were two of his teachers. At twelve years old, Chelly met Salvatore Dali who influenced his painting at the beginning of his career. During his university years, he touched upon abstract art, as well as purely geometric forms, only to return to figurative painting. He has participated in some 20 group exhibitions in Paris, Montreal and New York. His most recent have been held at the Centre d’exposition Brancusi in Montreal (1984), at the Saidye Bronfman Center in Montreal (1986), at the Galerie de l’Aéroport in Paris (1987), at the Galerie Arte Labirento in Saint-Paul de Vence in France, as well as at the Galerie Saint-Paul in Montreal (1991).
