Back to artists - Retour aux artistes

Born in Hungary, Szert paints the French Capital with a brilliant precision. The artist is attentive, tender and mysterious as his brushstrokes flow over the canvas. Szert plunges in the depths of his memory and lets nostalgia be the drive of his artistic talent. Colors are meticulously chosen and the harmonics of the hues are being preferably washed out and softened rather than striking and crude. Sometimes lightened up by some bright touches of yellow, as a tribute to life’s sensuality, the palette of colors he uses seem to organize themselves in a melody perfumed with a flavor of mystery.

Small spots of light, reverberation of streetlights, are cleverly painted on the watery paves... Rain is seemingly paired with nostalgia most of the time, so it becomes another important recurrent characteristic of Szert’s work.

One can feel, through the intensity of his work, the incredible graphic precision of the artist, and his tendency to melancholy, in the purest poetic essence. It is not an easy task to represent the urban atmosphere of an era as specific as La Belle Époque, that Szert took on to paint to the best of his capacity. He succeeds in the most tremendous way, and presents to the eye a chic and elegant array of Parisian streets, people and landmarks.

One notices in each of his paintings this perfect unity in the tones, always sharply merged into this 'envelope', that brings together his overall atmosphere of serenity and nostalgia. The walls, the boutiques, the rooftops, the chimneys, the street signs, cars, tramways and monuments give to his paintings a delectable diversity that one cannot find in that many modern artists. Szert’s miracle is one of complexity and depth, which, by making abstraction of easy clichés and picturesque settings, gives to every piece a sumptuous visual poetry.
