Jan Delikat naît en Pologne en 1968. Il étudie les arts graphiques à l’Académie des Beaux-Arts de Cracovie et obtient sa Maîtrise d’Art en 1993. La même année, il reçoit le prestigieux prix décerné par La Fondation Elizabeth Greenshields. En 1992, le Ministre des Arts et de la Culture de Pologne lui remet une bourse et il reçoit également le Prix Tadeusz Kulisiewicz pour ses dessins et ses pastels. L’artiste participe à plusieurs expositions solos ou collectives à Varsovie, Cracovie, Tarnobrezg (Pologne), Nuremberg (Allemagne), Maastricht (Pays-Bas), Montréal, Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver et Victoria. « Jan Delikat (...) préfère des peintures monochromes où il joue sur les infinies nuances de tons. Ses thèmes sont indéniablement reliés à la fin du dix-neuvième siècle. Ses toiles sont en général faites d’une série de lignes riches. C’est avec grande confiance en soi et beaucoup d’imagination qu’il dispose sur ses toiles les personnages, les objets et les divers éléments architecturaux. À l’aide de petits traits de pinceaux très fins, il arrive à créer une mosaïque en camaïeu de gris qui débouche sur son monde intérieur (…). De par son style, Jan Delikat se situe dans la plus pure tradition des principes enseignés à l’Académie de Cracovie. Toutefois, il ne se contente pas de peindre uniquement selon ces principes. En effet, il s’est saisi de l’opportunité que lui offrait l’Académie de développer sa propre personnalité et son originalité. Jan Delikat was born in Poland in 1968. He studied Graphic Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts of Krakow, where he obtained his Masters Degree in 1993. In the same year he received the prestigious prize from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation. In 1992 he was awarded a scholarship from the Minister of Arts and Culture of Poland, as well as the Tadeusz Kulisiewicz Prize for his achievement in drawing and pastel. He has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Warsaw, Krakow, Tarnobrzeg (Poland), Nuremberg (Germany), Maastricht (The Netherlands), Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver and Victoria. «Jan Delikat (...) almost monochromatic in his use of colour, has now firmly established his style of painting which is based on refined subtleties of tones. His choice of themes and their representation, are neatly linked to the era of the late nineteenth century. He manifests a tendency towards illustration by simply translating his themes through the use of his genuinely rich linear brush strokes. It is with assurance and great imagination that he combines his figures, objects and architectural elements. He then enchants his imaginary world by adopting tones of graying colour which, in whole, fundamentally resembles a mosaic of minute brush strokes. (…) Jan Delikat, who has completed his studies at the Academy of Krakow, personifies, to a certain degree, the method of realizing the essential principals in art which are a part of the Academy’s academic program.
