Albric Soly, artiste-peintre éclectique, naît en Belgique en 1942. Il fait d’abord partie du groupe des Beaux-Arts de Beringen (Belgique), continue sa formation à l`École des Beaux-Arts de Montréal dès 1964 - année durant laquelle il s’installe au Québec.

L’artiste flamand fait toutefois chambre à part du milieu artistique académique, et se crée à travers les années un style tout à fait personnel. Criant d’originalité, jouant avec brio parmi les symboles et couleurs, Soly laisse sa marque dans une époque où le surréalisme côtoie l’abstrait, le classicisme épouse l’avant-garde et l’artiste devient porte-parole d’une société en pleine révolution.

Albric Soly, an eclectic artist, was born in Belgium in 1942 and settled in Quebec in 1964. His artistic development has evolved into a very personal style, from the period of the Fine Art Group at Beringen, Belgium, to his training at the École des Beaux-Arts de Montréal. He adopted a non-conformist and more gestual vision of the world, breaking the barriers by setting familiar universe into motion.

Albric Soly dedicates his life to making a conscious statement of universal harmony, through his masterful technique in art. Soly addresses, “the universe is in motion and movement creates harmony”. This simple profundity gives rise to an artform that expounds a world free of geographical boundaries and timeless in content.

It is virtually impossible to glance at Soly’s art. Our mind obligates the eye to move from one distorted object to another element of unrelated time to an inconspicuous symbol or figure and then through a pattern of color in constant motion. Or then again, we can just sit back and be humored. One can only marvel the accomplishment.

Consisting of great originality, a play with symbols and colors, as well as the integration of various materials into his works, he surpasses the boundaries of art and arrives into a world of collage and mixed media. Soly leaves his mark in an era where surrealism meets abstract, classicism marries avant-garde and where the artist becomes master in his domain.

'I try to concentrate on all that has been done in art and make something new', expresses Soly.
